Seed. Luke 13:18-19

The mustard seed parable. I have loved this parable. I remember a book I had as a kid that had the parables in short-story form. In fact….I think it may be downstairs.

Just wait a second.

I read this book all the time growing up. It was given to me by my Aunt Laura in 1982 for my First Communion.

Once I learned about the mustard seed parable, I was always bummed that that one was not included in this book. It would totally fit in with the lessons of the book, but I digress. (Can we just take a second for a “how cool is that” that I still have the book AND I knew where it was!?!?!)

My first year of teaching 2nd grade at a small Catholic School in LaCrescent, MN, the school Masses rotated through the grades each month. When it was time for my 2nd graders to plan the Mass, this is the Gospel we used. We also used The Giving Tree story to show God’s everlasting eternal love for us.

But, as I journeyed through my day today I kept trying to reflect on the word “seed.” It didn’t hit me until tonight during worship when Pastor Max and Geralyn played and sang this song.

It’s moments like this when God plants seeds of hope, peace, joy, and affirmation within us. It’s that little spark of understanding, peace, and joy that hits you just right at the right spot. When you just stop and lose yourself in the moment. It’s those times when God plants those seeds of love right within us.

It’s our job to cultivate the seeds, help them to bloom and spread that love to others. That’s what we are called to do.

The prayer tonight: Holy Spirit, breath of God, send us out today. Blow through our hearts and into our lives so that we might carry the seed of your word into every circumstance. Empower us to be ambassadors for your good news. Amen

The pictures I had for today were these (which opens up even more stories)

This picture of “helicopters.” These fascinated me as a young child. These were always on Grandma and Granpa Hill’s driveway each year and I loved making them spin! Now when I see them, I try to plant them to get a tree to grow! 🙂 ❤

The other photo I had in mind for today was this – The monarch caterpillars partaking in the fabulous milkweed we now let grow in our yard. Each summer my boys are amazed by the transformations that take place in front of our very eyes.

Take these moments that God plants for us and sow His love!

Good night!

Let me know what you’re thinkin’!
