Time for another TMI update! 😉 I know how you all love those!
I went and saw a reproductive endocrinologist (say that ten times fast…) in July. We decided the oral meds for infertility were NOT working for me. (Remember how bitchy I was?) So, in August, I went in to start injections. After a transvaginal ultrasound (that sounds worse than it is), the doctor wasn’t sure if I had fibroids in my uterus, so shots were put on a hold a few days while I had a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), which is an xray of the uterus. They shoot dye up there and watch it enter the fallopian tubes to make sure there are no blockages. Everything turned out to be ok, so I started shots (plus an oral drug since we had to put the injections on hold until we found out x-ray results.) I grew only one egg on this regimen. Needless to say, we did not conceive this cycle, and I got my period.
I went in three days later to start the next cycle of injections and after another ultrasound, they found I had a large cyst on my ovary. They put me on birth control pills for 3 weeks in order for the cyst to go away. Three weeks later, I went in to get the cyst checked out, and it had in fact, disappeared. So, the doctor decided to go straight shots this next cycle. He put me on 2 different drugs (injections), Bravelle and Menopur. Bravelle is a highly purified preparation of human follicle stimulating hormone (hFSH). Menopur is a highly purified preparation of naturally derived gonadotropins, called hMG. It contains equal amounts of 2 kinds of hormonal activity: follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which helps stimulate egg production; and luteinizing hormone (LH), which helps the eggs mature and release (ovulate). Are you still with me?
So, after 3 days on injections, I went in for another ultrasound to check on my progress, and I have eight, yes, you read that correctly, EIGHT eggs in my ovary…getting ready to mature to be released! I about had a stroke when my doctor said that! He changed the dosages of the drugs for a few days now, in hopes that only one or two of these eggs will become large enough to be released and then hopefully, fertilized. I go back on Saturday morning to have another peek at what’s going on.
So, that is where we sit…waiting to see how many eggs will be released this cycle. Cross your fingers, and say some prayers, NOT EIGHT! I’ll keep you posted!

Let me know what you’re thinkin’!
