I just was on a website and learned that Dr. Frank Rocco had passed away this March. What a terrible loss to education and to WInona. He was a fabulous guy, a wonderful professor, and a big teddy bear to his Special Ed Department advisees. I remember when he first made me cry as a freshman when I went into his office for help with registration…I was shaking when I left his office……and then, oh the fun we had in his classes….. and the big hugs he’d give away to his students when we graduated.  Dr. Rocco was a phenomenal person. He will be missed!

Dr. Rocco- You taught us so much about what life in the teaching profession was REALLY like. You scared us as incoming freshmen, but you loved each of us……and you celebrated in our successes. You were an incredible person with a heart of gold. You made me into the teacher I am today! Thank you!

(p.s. I need to go into my photo files and find my college graduation picture of me, Dr. Rocco and his wife, Joyce. I’ll keep looking!)

I didn’t know him (as I wasn’t in the elementary education program), but so sorry. I’ll have to see if my sister remembers him, though…

He was in the special education department………. He’d kill ya if you put him in with the elementary “folks!” Hehehehe! Such rivalry on campus!

Wow…this is weird…I went to WSU , too! I found out about Dr Rocco’s death a couple days ago…my neighbor’s mom lives in Winona and is an alumni… Anyway…it is a great loss… on a cool note…I was just down at the WSU TODay…30 years since I started there… to help my daughter register…she will be living at Lourdes Hall…. and is majoring in El Ed… What a small world!

He was the talk of the school since most of the people I work with graduated from Winona. They had quite the stories of him!

Let me know what you’re thinkin’!
