My Incoherent Thoughts Tonight on Uncle Matt
- Uncle Matt’s an amazing person with unmatched determination, strength, wit, and courage.
- He taught me so many things in my lifetime.
- He was my confirmation sponsor when I was confirmed in 8th grade.
- I loved when he met my soon-to-be aunt because she would come over and babysit for me with him.
- I loved watching him and my other uncles and my dad play softball in the field behind Grandma & Grandpa’s house when I was a kid. Every Hill get-together during the warm months had all the guys (brothers, in-laws, etc) out on the softball field. It was so much fun to watch them and to cheer them on!
- I’ll never forget when I was staying at their house after their first child, Rebecca, was born. I pulled out a small drawer to get the remote, and out fell all of these fingernail and toenail clippings! Aunt Sharon was so embarrassed…Uncle Matt would sit in the chair and clip his nails while he watched TV and then throw them in the drawer when he was done. I thought that was so cool yet so gross!
- I used to love going to the bank when I was in high school and college and stopping in to visit him if he was in his office. He ALWAYS made you feel welcome and always set his work aside and take the time for a quick chat to see how I was doing and what I was up to.
- Uncle Matt and his family made the trip up here to Minnesota for our wedding. We had our wedding on Saturday morning, a reception at a park in the afternoon and then we bussed all of our guests to the St. Paul Saints vs Joliet Jackhammers baseball game, where we threw out the first pitch. He thanked me many times for the fun weekend.
- He always went out of his way to chat with me at family parties to see how life was treating me in the “great white North!”
- He quietly and bravely fought his battle against cancer.
- He’s a man of great faith.
- He had a quiet sense of humor about him that always made others laugh and chuckle.
- I love you, Uncle Matt!
Once again, I could write on and on and on. I have had a long day and am quite tired. I am waiting to hear about funeral arrangements and getting ready to leave for Chicago once again. I’ll keep you posted!
Please pray for our family. Uncle Matt is one of ten Hill children (my mom is the oldest). Uncle Matt and Aunt Sharon have eight children… this is a very sad time for our family.

Let me know what you’re thinkin’!
