ok, I’ve taken a few weeks off from Thursday Thirteen, so I thought I would base my entry on Punky….with whom, I’ve been spending all of my time with since school got out this summer!

13 “Punky-isms”

  1. “Ha Da & Choo Choo” translates to “Mommy, let’s go eat hotdogs and watch the choo-choo trains at Chris & Rob’s!” Ha Da’s are his FAVORITE food and Choo-Choos along with any mode of transportation gets his attention at anytime!
  2. Clucking of his tongue now translates into “grandparent” It used to only be grandma but now he has been applying this sound to grandpas too! (Thank you Grandma Knock Knock!)
  3. A loud slurping made by sucking inward quickly translates into “Motorcycle” or “bike”
  4. “Poot” and a pointed finger to his bottom informs us that he has pooped!
  5. “Boot” now means BOOK…and boy this child loves books! (THANK GOD!)
  6. Punky is learning more and more names of people in his life…”Pabby” is “Aunt Tabby,” “Dak” is Uncle Geoff, “Minnie” is Uncle Mikey, “Neannie” is Aunt Jeanne, “BriDonna” is Uncle Brian and Aunt Donna, “Didney” is Sydney (at daycare), “Biww” is Bill (neighbor across the street) and KellyJo’s hubby), “Dud-ee” is Judy (neighbor across the street), “Lelly” is KellyJo, “Leen” is Colleen, “Mare-mey” is Jeremy, “Do-lia” is Julia who watches him in the nursery at our church…and of course, “MOMMY” and “DADA” (Sorry grandparents…….he just clucks his tongue when he means you guys! If he means Grandma Knock Knock, he knocks on his head and clucks, too!)
  7. A quick downward flick of his wrist into a swan-head shape.. translates into “Upside down” or “Hey, Can I flip over my bowl of_____?” or “Spin me upside down!”
  8. “But”translates to “bus.” He loves watching buses go by our house. If we’re out driving he screams with excitement when he sees one! (We’ll have to work on that ending “SSSSSS” sound though!)
  9. “Dracter” is tractor! When he passes one on the road, he says “More!” He loves them!
  10. “Wainins” are raisins….his new favorite snack!
  11. “Wain” translates to rain. He hasn’t been too enthralled with rain when it does. In fact, I don’t think he likes it much.
  12. “Coo-cow” I think is “cool car!” He has a bit of trouble with those ending /r/ and /l/ sounds. But, come on…he’s 20 months old!
  13. “Boo” is still his beloved “Blue” blanket made by Aunt Jeanne. Blue can’t wait to get to IL next month and get patched up again! He has a whole in him…where punky will point and say “Oh Oh!” Blue goes EVERYWHERE with Punky!

This list is just a small sampling of what I love about my little guy! Of course, his “Beeeeeet” should be listed too, as well as “Dude…” but I left them off as I just posted about them this week!

Children are so precious. Don’t you just wish you could bottle up their voices forever!

I just commented on a similar TT that it’s so sad when children learn to talk properly!

    Happy TT from Ireland….

Great TT! Mine is almost the same, except it’s from my child, not yours. =)

My son used to say grandma like a tongue click in the back of his mouth. Sometimes he vocalized it, and it sounded like Gn-gn, but many times it was just this gutteral clicking sound. Crazy kids!
