WHAT A DAY!
Punky and I took Grandma Miriam and Grandpa Kenny out for lunch…..guess where we went? Yep…….”Ha da’s” and “Choo-Choos!” We went to Chris & Rob‘s for another Chicago Style Hot Dog! And yes, a “choo choo” came through while we were eating so Punky once again was in heaven!
After Punky’s nap, I packed him up and headed out to go find Kid Create Studios for our free “Kiddoodler” (18 months to 3 years) art workshop. We got there a bit early, as I planned on traffic being heavier. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner, Lara. She gave me information about the new place (It’s only been open for 5 days!) She had Punky put on an apron so he wouldn’t get paint over everything….and we sat and looked around the studio for a bit until some other kids got there. She started their class promptly at 3:30! (Promptness is something I love now as I am usually toting around a toddler!)
Lara explained to the kids about Jackson Pollack and went into a quick lesson about abstract art. She showed the kids the 2 art projects they would be making….and then let them go to work!
Punky’s 1st project today was fun! We put a piece of paper on the bottom of a Rubbermaid container. Punky measured out 3 spoonsful of paint (one red, one blue, and one yellow) and plopped them down on the paper in the container. He then threw in the 3 golf balls and we closed the lid. Punky (and mommy) shook the container so it made lots of noise with the balls rolling around inside it! When we took the lid off, Punky had a BEAUTIFUL piece of art!
The next project was “motion painting” where the kids were given a piece of paper on a HUGE tarp as well as paint and brushes. They taught the kids how to drip, flick, etc the paint on to the paper by moving around. Punky had a riot with this one! He had paint all over me and him! (ok, in the video, Punky looks like an Oompa Loompa……..so I am including some pictures for you to see too!)
After the projects, Lara brought the kids back together and talked about abstract art and whether or not the kids thought what they did today was “art.” She then told the kids that they were welcome to take home their artwork today (even though it was still wet) or leave it over night and she’d mount/frame it for the kids. Very cool! We left Punky’s there over night to dry and will go get it in the morning!

Let me know what you’re thinkin’!
