reality…

Back to reality today (after the long holiday weekend!)

This morning consisted of mundane staff development. Ick. (I would have rather had students today! I know people work hard to put this stuff on, but our district is so huge and so diverse that what some of us need is not what others of us need! Make sense?)

The afternoon was better—–much more interesting yet bone-chilling. We had the Police Dept come in to our school and talk to the staff about gangs and violence. They opened up with a police car chase that was about 10 minutes long…….that happened on a local highway and into a residential neighborhood here. After the video, they informed us that the driver of that car was one of our current students! He/She is 13 years old and had stolen the vehicle earlier that evening! 😦 Kind of freaky!

There were also lots of photos that were shown to us of current “happenings” in our suburb of Minneapolis. Made me think that I don’t want Punky to grow up or go to school!!!!!!!!! (Of course, I don’t really think that, but this stuff scared the crap out of me!)

Then, as a staff, we had a mock mass evaluation where all of us walked over to the high school like we would if anything ever happened in our building and we had to evacuate. That was a bit eery too.

Now, I am heading home to spend time with Punky and get some laundry done. Another mundane task…
