what a long day. First thing this AM when I walk into my classroom, I drop my Eddie Bauer 32 oz water jug, and it spills EVERYWHERE in my classroom…so I head off to borrow towels from the FACS Department (Family & Consumer Science). I clean it up. My day starts well. I taught awesome lessons 2nd and 3rd hours. 4th hour went ok. Then comes lunch.
One of the new paraprofessionals that just started in our department came to my room to eat. I really like eating with her. She’s an awesome person who really knows her stuff. She used to teach special education in Chicago, but when she moved up here she didn’t want all the paperwork, so she took a job as a para for now. Anyway, we got to talking about how her kids liked their new school. (She has a 7 th grade daughter at our school and twin boys in the elementary school down the street **Note – she and her family are black). She went on to tell me about her boys and how terribly one of them wasn’t liking the new school. It tuned out that he was being teased and called the N word by some of his classmates! (Yes, in 4th grade!) So, they had a meeting with the parents of the kids involved as well as an administrator and the kids. This is where it got me going! She went on to explain what the PARENTS of these children had said in this conference. One commented that “maybe people like your kind don’t belong in a neighborhood such as ours….” Another commented that “you know when your kind try moving up the socio-economic ladder, you find that you move into a neighborhood that just doesn’t fit with you…” HELLO?!?!?!? Is this not 2007? What kind of ignorant people do we still have living among us?
Then, I spent the next 3 hours of my day trying to draw out a problem one of my students is having but won’t tell any of us what it is.
After that ordeal, the school day was over. (Thankfully, a colleague took my 6th and 7th hour students back to her classroom so that I could continue meeting with my kiddo). I felt like a wet dish cloth… trying to draw ANYTHING out of her was exhausting! I was so tired.
Punky went to the chiropractor tonight. We have a weekly appointment set up for the next 6 weeks for him. I hope this helps! He seemed to be ok with the whole thing! The chiropractor taught me a few things I could do at home to help drain out his ears since little guys his age don’t have sinuses yet. I’ll keep you all posted!
That’s about my day…it was a long, frustrating, exhausting, and rewarding day! All rolled up into one! (That’s why I am heading off to bed!)

Let me know what you’re thinkin’!
